PEPE social work training unit

Partnership with Enable for Practice Education (PEPE) is our social work student placement scheme.

We provide practical opportunities for social work students to gain the experience they need at social care projects across Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

How does PEPE work?

Students will receive training from one of our experienced Practice Educators. Based on individual learning needs, each student will be allocated a range of work including one-to-one, group work and assessments within our projects, day centres, registered care homes, and private homes.

Where you will be working

In Derbyshire, placements are available in supported living, day services, and residential settings in Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, High Peak, and the Derbyshire Dales.

In Leicestershire, students will be offered placements in projects which provide:

• accommodation and support for single teenage parents and their children
• a safe house for people fleeing from domestic violence
• supported accommodation for older people
• support for people with enduring mental health issues who live independently

What you will be doing

All of our placements allow students the opportunity to:

• produce support, care, health and housing plans
• work in a multidisciplinary team
• write individual service user assessments including risk assessments
• perform one-to-one and group work
• assess new referrals
• develop your thinking about social work practice
• undertake mandatory training e.g. on the Mental Capacity Act [2005]
• work on independent advocacy
• learn about health and social care law and its implications
• work with providers and commissioners, including GPs
• make presentations to other staff in the organisation
